Overview

The Project Manager - Data Migration Lead will lead the data migration workstream for new client onboarding and conversion activity. The role owns data migration strategy, mapping, business rules, reconciliation, testing, dress rehearsal, issue management and sign-off, coordinating client, prior administrator, project, business, technical and testing teams to ensure accurate and controlled migration into the target environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead analysis of data migration requirements and define the migration strategy for onboarding/conversion projects.
  • Liaise with client, previous administrator, project teams, business teams and technical teams to elicit, analyse, validate and communicate migration requirements.
  • Lead data mapping from prior systems to target systems and define business rules for data on-load.
  • Analyse initial datasets for quality, integrity, completeness and suitability for migration.
  • Document mapping requirements, data dictionaries, templates, tools, migration approach and reconciliation approach.
  • Act as SME for balance-only and history conversions, including image conversion where applicable.
  • Develop or oversee data migration test cases, testing strategy and validation approach.
  • Coordinate dress rehearsal and live runbook inputs for data migration components.
  • Track data migration risks, issues, defects and resolution actions through to closure.
  • Report progress, risks and escalations to Project Manager / Programme Manager and relevant governance forums.

Deliverables:

  • Data migration strategy and approach document.
  • Data mapping specification, data dictionary, templates and toolset definition.
  • Business rules mapping and source-to-target mapping documentation.
  • Data quality and integrity assessment.
  • Reconciliation plan, reconciliation evidence and sign-off pack.
  • Data migration test strategy, test cases and validation evidence.
  • Dress rehearsal and live runbook data migration sections.
  • Migration issue/defect/risk tracker.
  • Data migration readiness and go-live sign-off materials.

Governance Responsibilities:

  • Maintain data migration governance across requirements, mapping, testing, reconciliation, dress rehearsal and live migration checkpoints.
  • Provide data migration status, risk, issue and readiness inputs to project governance.
  • Ensure migration requirements, business rules, test evidence and sign-offs are documented and auditable.
  • Manage risk and issue escalation where data quality, mapping, reconciliation or testing defects affect project readiness.
  • Ensure data migration activity aligns to internal controls, client requirements, data protection and regulatory expectations.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or relevant professional qualification.
  • PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent project/programme management certification.
  • Experience with implementation lifecycle, SDLC documentation, UAT, model office, transition planning or business readiness activity.
  • Knowledge of compliance, AML, data protection, financial crime prevention, client asset or regulated operating environments.
  • IT qualification or previous data migration experience in financial services.
  • Experience with balance-only, history or image conversion in a Transfer Agency or fund administration context.

Essential skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to simplify complex delivery information for senior stakeholders and clients.
  • Strong organisation, prioritisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams under tight deadlines.
  • Proactive problem solving, issue resolution, escalation management and the ability to create momentum across teams.
  • Confident use of Microsoft Office tools, project plans, status reports, RAID logs, runbooks and governance materials.
  • Strong data analysis, mapping, reconciliation, requirements documentation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to define detailed requirements with limited ambiguity and translate business needs into practical migration solutions.
  • Good understanding of ETL, data validation, migration testing and logical data transformation considerations.

Experience

  • Experience delivering complex client-facing onboarding, conversion, launch or transformation projects in a regulated financial services environment.
  • Strong project delivery discipline, including planning, dependency management, risk and issue management, reporting and stakeholder communications.
  • Experience operating in a matrix environment with multiple internal functions, senior stakeholders, client contacts and third-party dependencies.
  • Practical experience managing documentation, sign-offs, governance packs, workstream status and delivery artefacts through the project lifecycle.
  • Experience in data conversion, data migration, data reconciliation or business analysis within financial services or similarly controlled environments.
  • Experience coordinating technical teams, testing teams and business stakeholders through tight migration timelines.
  • Understanding of Transfer Agency operations, mutual fund products, operating models, fund setup, client servicing and distribution channels.
  • Familiarity with regulated financial services controls, quality standards, operational risk, legal/risk/compliance review and client governance.
  • Awareness of onboarding concepts including due diligence, gap analysis, TOM design, fund flow, reporting matrix, SLA/KPI/MIS and handover planning.
  • Understanding of Transfer Agency data, fund/shareholder records, prior administrator conversion activity, reconciliation expectations and regulated data controls.

Stakeholder Management Requirements:

  • Work directly with clients, previous administrators, client technology teams, vendors, project leads, business SMEs, technical teams and testing teams.
  • Translate complex data migration requirements into clear actions, owners and acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate between business and technical teams to resolve mapping, quality, reconciliation and testing questions.
  • Escalate migration issues that affect cutover, reconciliation, client readiness or go-live confidence.
  • Maintain clear reporting to project/programme management and ensure stakeholders understand data migration progress and risk.
