You will work closely with QA, product and programme teams to deliver scalable, maintainable Android solutions, contributing to technical direction and best practices across the team.

This role will suit an experienced Android engineer who enjoys working on complex, business‑critical systems and is comfortable operating across the full software development lifecycle.

This role is fully onsite in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.

Responsibilities

  • Android Application Development
    • Design, develop and maintain high‑quality Android applications using Java and Kotlin, following modern Android development practices and architectural patterns.
    • Contribute to application design decisions with a focus on scalability, maintainability and security.
    • Integrate Android applications with external services, SDKs and platform capabilities such as hardware features, secure storage and networking.
  • Security, Quality & Compliance
    • Apply secure coding practices and contribute to the development of applications operating in regulated or security‑conscious environments.
    • Support quality assurance activities through unit testing, integration testing and defect resolution.
    • Participate in reviews and remediation activities arising from internal audits, testing or external requirements where applicable.
  • Legacy Transformation
    • Contribute to the migration and refactoring of legacy Android codebases to modern architectures (e.g. modularisation, improved separation of concerns, reusable components).
    • Support incremental modernisation while maintaining system stability and minimising disruption to users.
  • Performance & Observability
    • Analyse and optimise application performance, including responsiveness, memory usage and startup times.
    • Implement logging, monitoring and diagnostic capabilities to support production support and incident investigation.
  • Automation & CI/CD
    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of automated build, test and deployment pipelines for Android applications.
    • Support automated test execution and continuous integration practices to improve code quality and release reliability.
  • Collaboration & Mentoring
    • Collaborate closely with QA engineers, product owners, delivery managers and other developers to align on priorities and delivery timelines.
    • Participate in code reviews, share knowledge and mentor less experienced developers where appropriate.
    • Contribute to post‑release reviews and root‑cause analysis for defects or production incidents.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject

Essential skills

  • Client-facing skills
  • People management skills - introducing and building ways in which people can learn from each other, encouraging mentoring and the transfer of knowledge by designing and delivering learning interventions
  • Team work and emotional intelligence
  • Good self-management – continuous performance is both an objective and a mind-set
  • Has an innovative approach – a bold thinker and doer, matching creativity with vigilance
  • High value on openness and transparency

Experience

  • Strong hands‑on Android development experience using Java and Kotlin.
  • Experience working with modern Android architectures, tooling and build systems.
  • Familiarity with secure application development principles and best practices.
  • Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines for Android applications.
  • Proficiency with common development tools including Android Studio, Gradle and Git; experience with CI tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI or Azure DevOps is beneficial.
  • Comfortable debugging issues on physical devices and analysing application logs in non‑trivial environments.
  • Experience working in financial services, fintech or other regulated domains is considered a nice to have, but not essential. Exposure to payment systems, security standards or compliance‑driven development will be viewed positively.
